Many people have asked about making upgrades or changes to the game now that Zygi is transferring ownership of the game to me (or rather, more correctly, to a Research Center in Hong Kong led by a group of faculty members that I am one of the Directors of currently). This transfer will formally take place within the next week, but there will be no changes to the game during the month of May.

In addition, no changes to the game will be made without discussion and comments on proposed changes on the support forum, with two exceptions. First, known bugs will be fixed without notice. Second, addition of a automated market place for resources is a requirement for purchasing the game by our Research Center, and this will happen with notice but without discussion or input on market characteristics. It will take about two months or so to get this market up.

As for other changes, many people have good ideas. I welcome all discussions of proposed changes, and some that have reasonable interest and support will be implemented, but only AFTER clear warning in advance of planned changes. There will be no overnight surprises in changes to rules.

Finally, I would be interested in hearing from any players who are good at PHP coding that would be interested in volenteering services to help with some of the proposed upgrades or support. The code and installation will be protected and inspected for security risks (no installation of back doors, or you will be dropped faster than a hot potato).

Zygi will still provide some support, but no player may request any changes from him. All requests for any changes to the application must go via support forum posts and then I will make decisions on what will be fixed first or what will be modified. A few of the senior veteran players and clan leaders will also be consulted regarding any changes. I will represent the new players voices, as I have a strong interest in helping new players, but I also do not wish to harm the game for veterans, so will seek input from the many, many players in the game with more experience than me.

PMs or emails to me about proposed changes are likely to be lost. I receive about 40 PMs per day and more than 120 emails per day. Thus, if you want your suggestions to be remembered and taken seriously, use the support forum and allow others to give feedback on your ideas. The best way to get a new idea implemented is to sell it to the overall game community, not to me directly. Even if I like the idea, I will still seek input from the community anyway.

Okay. If you are familar with market exchange theory, it will be a double auction automated posted price exchange with buy/sell broker fees. If that sounds like mumbo jumbo, then:

1. You will deposit resources with market (exact process of doing so to be determined)
2. Resources will be offered for sale at price that is set in advance by seller
3. Resources will be bid on by buyers, using common currency of exchange
4. When offered price by buyer (bid) is equal to or higher than posted price by seller (ask), then a trade happens. Prices are compared every few minutes to see if any trades can be matched.
5. Both buyer and seller pay fee for automated trade, but no risk and easier to trade this way.

Trades directly will still be allowed (and encouraged). Process of depositing and collecting resources not yet clearly defined, but might be direct withdrawal or direct deposit to planet selected as trading interface. Common currency of exchange will either be credits or gold. Not sure which. I think credits is a better medium of exchange, but there might not be enough players with credits available to make purchases possible, which could hurt market effectiveness. However, there probably will be a "market maker" who is part of the exchange that is making deals and who will have credits available. This would allow players to sell resources for credits.
