Should really get a backup server and a DB server, but you probably don't have the money to do so.

Skylords should think about getting a better source of income than ads alone. One Idea is you could charge for people to be able to run seperate universes. I know this could lead to people running universes that will compete with the real one, so you could safeguard from this by having moderators assigned to each universe, and setting specific regulations. This si just one idea.

Well, I'd suggest allowing people to be a part of more than one universe, that way people wouldn't have to hop. Also, it would keep people playing when they were defeated because they could go join anothe universe.

Also, a DB server would make things work a lot faster here because this is such a DB intensive game.

We get money from credit sales, which actually matters more than ads in terms of funding server costs. As for server backup, the real cost is the time to make it happen.

However, I am considering hiring someone to help Iiridayn. It would be a programmer in Sri Lanka who would be able to work for about US$2.00 per hour on a part-time basis, and he would be experienced with server support. This might be even more needed if Iiridayn gets a full-time job of some sort and has less time to support the game in the future.

As for the server, we do have a large multiprocessor server, but it is a shared virtual private server, not a dedicated server. The cost of a dedicated server on network backbone is more than double the cost of the current server, and with strong criticisms of buyers of credits, income from credit sales has declined and it is not likely that the economics would support a fully dedicated server. However, I do believe that this would be needed if the game starts to grow with the addition of new members to the community.
