As a newbie, I already understand why quite a few of the new players quit. I have been playing exactly two weeks, built up 25 planets as it states to do in the handbook. After 1 week grace period, while still in the newbie zone, I am attacked and lose 9 planets. I take my 16 planets into the real arena and am attacked the same day I enter the arena. Currently I have 6 planets and am trying to build enough transports to hold all my troops and material I have amassed so that when my last 6 planets are destroyed I will have a few resources to start over with when I locate new planets.

For my two cents worth. I would put a cap on the amount of troops allowed on 1 planet. You have homeworlds that cannot be taken because there are to many troops located on it, if the max amount of troops allowed on a HW was lower, it would cause more conflict between the top end players instead of them looking for newbies to kill (Like Me) and I would give newbies a longer grace period than 1 week before being attacked.

As for resetting the system, I have a question that needs answered.

When in the last 4 months have there been any true wars between the top 15 players. If there have not been any, then the game has become stagnant and the elite are just attacking those who they know cannot do them any harm (Like Me again). It the answer is that there have been no wars between the top players, then the game needs reset.

Guys Guys guys damn

I said basically what i believe this game needs to become active again, i gave 3 ways of doing this, the first was 150 players would give a rise to activity across the board
Second was 300 players to keep the bigger and older players competition

the thrid was ONLY as a last resort thats why it was thrid, i wasn't calling for a reset, i'm just saying that is the quickest way to sort out the problems of SL, we shouldn't do this if we can help it

How is this for an idea

Raise the maximum exp of assaults, but limit the amount of Exp a player can get per attack to like 5 or 10, e.g. force them to find a very low pp planet, but they'll still waste troops, this would i think make training of larger more powerful ships cheaper and since you always lose them during attacking it won't hurt as much

You may have the troops and the assaults to go with them, but always remember....

The players who attacked me did not care very much about the XP they would receive, I am sorry to say. They just wanted to take worlds, which is the idea of this game. I have enought troops to attack other newbies - (Like Myself) and take their planets.

But why would I want to attack someone who has been playing less than one month, if I do that then they will most likely lose all there planets, and quit the game. This is the reason why there are only 69 active players, because newbies are not being allowed the chance to grow into full time players.

As I posted before, I have lost most of my planets in less that two weeks of playing. The only reason I have not quit is probably I am to darn stuborn to.

Plus I want to attack and truly hurt those who attacked me already.

RKNEE is right.
That's why "morale" must have some affect to player resources gain, or attack force in %...
Then player will think twice before attack newbie.

I'm pretty sure that if you loose all your planets, your ships disappear as well.

I would just make shields a little bit weaker to encourage attacking :)

A final post after the spam of Choas

Two more ideas to promote growth of new players.
1. When a player who has a high player class attacks (5 stars) a planet of someone 3 or more ranks (1 or 2 stars) below them, do not allow them to collect the resources from the defeated planet. Have all resources drop to zero. If they want to keep the planet then they start from scratch.

2. Do not allow attacks from high player class (5 stars) on someone 3 or more ranks below them. (1 or 2 stars). This would allow the new players enough time to grow and stay with the game and force the best players to fight among themselves.

number 2 would also cause inactivity in a few players then who dont probe as their nearbies would be filled with innactive 1 or 2 star newbies

It would cause them to wait until the new player reached to rank 3, then they would be able to attack them outright. The players who dont want to probe, just wait until a newbie drops by them and attacks the newbie. That is not right either and causes the newer player to leave. Players who have invested time into becoming top level players need to attack players who have a chance to defend themselves instead of attacking the helpless.
