I think there are alot of changes that need to be implemented before adding a new ship to the game.

Why couldn't fighters be allowed to choose targets?
Meaning the always attack turrets. It would seem that maybe the ability to select targets might be an alternative. They would still have to deal with the risk of being hit so it involves something random.
The effect (loss of shields) could be temporary for amounts under production values- say for the rest of the round. Have to rebuilt in the case where it is coming from buildings.
