Lent is not something that my family has done before, but my wife decided she needed to do something for a change, so she is giving up a bit of online media for the period from Feb 22 to April 6. The kids and I have chosen to follow her example and giving up my gaming, discord, and the like, so I will not be here for at least the next 40 days. Peace be with you till we meet again.

I won't speak to how well the rest of my family did, but yes, I didn't play for the full time and a little extra on each end- plus for the last half cut out most movies/tv too-
For me, the difference- at home, I did more reading, which in my mind, it is difficult to really feel like that was much of a change, reading a bit of litRPG or fantasy vs playing SL or Clash of Clans- not sure of the tradeoff- but it is different-
The main difference was at work- since there may be occasional times when I check on my games- instead of doing that I tried to take care of some projects that I had been envisioning- so it was particularly beneficial in that aspect-

So overall- I think it was good- figure it is something I could incorporate yearly, though I might try to implement some additional scripture study, that could replace some of the fiction reading to boost my spiritual aspect compared to my typical week-

I have had a number of religious leaders in my life that had different takes on Lent.
One of them was adamant that giving up something like chocolate was just pushing self-denial and didn't lead to spiritual growth; his focus was giving up something that distracts one from the Christian path (something like overuse of alcohol, etc.) and/or adding something like reading scripture or even a daily walk in the woods to help move in that direction. He also tended to treat Advent as kind of a mini-Lent, in order to have a more welcoming heart.
I have grown to adopt that pattern for Lent
Of course, in a perfect world, those life changes will last beyond Lent...

I think romans 14 is quite relevant to this. If doing it brings a good outcome then do it. Personally I would like to do something for lent but I always just get too busy or distracted.
its also interesting to note the similarities between lent and ramadan.
