I have had a quick look at Profs survey and I will be completing it in the next few days once I have had chance to fully read up on the turrets/buildings topics that are scattered around the forums.

Like SmartFox however, I found the first question a bit of a shocker...

I always wondered about the validaty of ships that are assigned to planets being destroyed when the planet was captured even if the ships were light years away. I know that this is far from real life but surely if a planet is captured then logic dictates that any ships elsewhere assigned to that planet should remain safe as they do at present, they aren't actually physically linked to the planet so what effect does the planet capture have on them?

Let's use a real world example. Let's say NASA launches a ship from Cape Conaveral, FL... and so the ship is nearing the moon. But then the japanese blow up Cape Conaveral with an Atomic Bomb. The ship can no longer communicate with the headquarters, leaving them stuck in space. Therefore, if they try to return they will most likely land in the ocean in which sharks will eat them. :D Gosh, guys use your common sence on this. That is why I voted for only 20% of your ships to be lost instead of the full 100% because, there is a NASA headquarters in Huston, TX as well :D

*edit* So let's use a SL example. You launch an assult from your HW... and so the assult is nearing the nearby. But SmartFox comes and blows up your HW with 500k assults. Your ship can no longer communicate with your HW, leaving them stuck in space. Therefore, if they try to return they will most likely end up in the battlezone in which Deemers will eat them. :D Gosh, guys use your common sence on this. Thats why I voted for only 20% of your ships to be lost instead of the full 100% because, there is a backup HW in -/+/- :D

I agree. It was a dumb idea. However, Zygi warned me that if I changed it, there would be negative effectives on the game. He was right. Even so, I do not like that solution.

Fortunately, the majority of players voting now agree with the position of me, SF, and you.

What was a dumb idea? Not assigning ships to planets anymore?

mmm, this is like I said, far from the real world though isn't it?

We have more than one planet and more than one ship. NASA has just one planet and 3 ships. NASA's ship rely on ground control every hour of every day. Our ships can sit in space until the end of time without having anything to do with the planets they were launched from.

We could have an very complicated game here where ships in space rely on service ships, re supply ships etc to stay in space, crew ships to change over crews every so often depending on how long they stay in space. That's not this game. In the Skylords universe ships in space have no connection to the planet they were launched from except a line of code that says they are assigned to that planet.

How about some definitely UNREAL world examples... The Death Star was destroyed by the rebels, Darth Vader's fighter remained (and I'm sure a great many Star Destroyers were "assigned" to the Death Star too). Hoth was captured by the Empire, the rebel fleet remained. The colonies were destroyed/captured by Cylons, the Galactica and fleet remained.

Ships docked at the planet, yes they should be destroyed, ships away should simply have their assigned planets changed.

No, Chaos, the dumb idea, in my opinion, is reassigning ships to planets. But, it keeps coming up, and has surprisingly strong recurring support. I took a risk that players would agree with my view on this issue in general. I was surprised, in some ways, with the number of players who do want to see ships reassigned to planets. I think it is a dumb idea, but about 25% of players in the game who voted were in favor of at least some ships being lost when planets are lost.

Fortunately, approximately 53% of players said no way, never, don't even think about it, and 17% said probably not, as there are better ways to achieve this objective. Whew. Did not want to have to assign ships to planets again.

Thats because they don't see any other options to "encourage" fair play other than put back a bad rule that we All used to live by.

I have an idea for ships although it doesn't really pertain exactly to what y'all are discussing.

"We could have an very complicated game here where ships in space rely on service ships, re supply ships etc to stay in space, crew ships to change over crews every so often depending on how long they stay in space. That's not this game. In the Skylords universe ships in space have no connection to the planet they were launched from except a line of code that says they are assigned to that planet. " Thabin

got me thinking about getting res back on hw's...what if there is a cost for a ship being in space for long ammounts of time where it drains a certain ammount of fuel and hydro to stay in no mans land. Maybe if there are troops on the ship it doubles the drain of hydro for air and water, and if the ship runs out of the two res needed to sustain the ship it starts to loose troops and maybe other res due to a malfunctioning ship?

"Therefore, if they try to return they will most likely end up in the battlezone in which Deemers will eat them."

Is this not common sense? :D

Yes I agree, reassigning ships to planets doesn't seem logical :D
After all the trouble of removing the feature, bring it back, along with all bugs? Nah :D

it's dumb to have ships linked to planet but it;s ilogical to have points awarded for sitting on resources

i wish i could have voted on that too ;)
