Stargate SG1 is a fantastic series, always has been.

Alas the "record breaking" bit is incorrect. Guinness World Records made an error when they said that Stargate SG1 was the longest running sci fi show.

SG1 started in July 1997 and has totalled 203 episodes when the 2007 Guinness Book of Records was published.

Doctor Who started in 1963 and is still going strong, totalling 723 episodes and still going.

Even taking into account the fact that Doctor Who was off air from 1989 to 2005 it still beats SG1 in the "consecutive episodes" record as Doctor Who ran continuously from 1963 to 1989 with a total of 695 episodes, compared to SG1's consective run of just 203 episodes.

That's my bit said, I'll grab me coat.

Damned good series that, and a decent film too. I used to watch it every Sunday at 4, 'till they took it off. :(

Indeed....good series.

The thing that always had me puzzled about it was the origin of some things. For instance, they have supporting stories for things like the Goa'uld (many thousands of years to construct fleets and train armies) and the Ori (they're practically gods, knowing all things and able to bend reality to their needs)....but Atlantis with the Wraith.....how the hell did the Wraith go from a new species to a swarm of warships and battle-ready armies greater than the Ancients could defeat with their far superior technology?

As far as SG-1, they were running out of ideas starting with when they changed the cast. I mean, when you use the same holographic knight in more than one, or even two episodes it's a bit redundant. And the interesting thing is how the story changed from originally how the Ancients were dying from a plague, and then one day the writers changed the backstory to many, if not all, the Ancients ascended.

Another strange change was how in the movie Rah was documented as the last of his kind, and he was dying when he landed with nowhere to go for help, and yet there were a good hundred or so Goa'uld present in the galaxy at the time, even before the humans rose up and defeated the aliens.

And now for the dead-end stories....what happened to the Rhee-Too's, the Unas, the Nox, and the Asgard? Slowly but surely we have gone from from a multi-front war with intricate interdependencies on other planets, and wars with unknown enemies to where all the enemies are known, Earth is producing it's own Naqueda, a sizeable amount of Naquadria left over, it is mass-producing its own spaceships, etc.

In other words, I'm saying it has been fun, and it was good while it lasted, but the writers wrote in too many dead ends....to the point that in a way they walled themselves in.
