I agree that the expansion has contributed to the slow down of "floating" HWs and that the planet drops are only a short term solution, however:

Planet drops individually are only a short term solution, but if we made it a permanent thing, regular planet drops it would be less short term, if we managed to keep the number of planets up at a level where everyone has targets then there would be no complaining. This would solve problems for the administration also, the cause of all problems with lack of "targets" is a lack of New Players. If an automatic planet drop was set up, whether regularly or on a basis where planets were dropped whenever the planet level got too low then the Admin could concentrate on other things, such as advertising.

My suggestion would be to set a minimum number of planets and have planets dropped whenever the number of planets in the Universe gets too low, that way there will be no/less complaints about the number of planets in the Universe, only complains might be the lack or actual player targets, but chains of SP/NPST planets would be created that may lead to actual player targets. This would allow the Admin to concentrate on more important factors of the game, such as ADVERTISING.

The problems of SL will only be solved when we have a good influx of new players, however this cannot and will not happen instantly, it will take alot of time to bring the level of new players coming into the game up to a standard that will keep the Real Arena on a decent level of planets.

This solution will help in many ways. For one the lack of complaints means less distraction from the important issues that are bringing SL closer to it's death. However one of the main ones will be that the Universe will become self-sustaining. With the new players coming in the planet drops will become less frequent and when they do happen the number of planets dropped will be less.

Therefore, I believe we should set up a planet drop, but use the time that we are spending arguing about said planet drops to work out ways in which we can advertise SL better and so bring in more new players to make the Universe support itself.

okay, regular drops - this is something i have advocated myself not long ago - will give us targets. but SP are not really targets, are they ? ;)

and what about HWs going to floating HWs? this is the big issue. eh, ... it looks like the two of us agree on this one.

We do agree it seems :) I don't think that should be how HWs should be though, how many empires in History have ever been governed from a ship somewhere in the Pacific?

As for SP being targets, it would be a substitute, it cannot fight back and it cannot defend itself, however it is a target, I think it's time to differentiate on this matter. I have always had two views:

SP/NPST: Targets, something to attack
Player: Enemy, someone to attack who can attack back and defend his or herself.

So personally I would consider them targets and attack as quickly as I could, lest someone else get their first and possibly find me on nearby, it would give you an incentive to attack, how many people enjoy losing planets? No one that I know, however attacking the SP targets quickly and any newly revealed nearbys would be a form of defence as well as attack.

They would not be good targets, but they would save the game.

GB it would shorten the universe if we had a reset... and all the points people had fropm cheating gone, all the inactive players gone... SL really screwed up when the widdened the universe...

and dios just because we have a reset dont mean we are coping sl, hve a better reason than that of why you dont want it... sl is sl fl is fl... there basically the same sl is just simpler... some of the same stuff will happen eathier way...

reset is needed... why wont we take a vote on it anyway... 3 starts or higher are the only votes that count (with the expetion of a few people who we know arnt noobs)

That isn't my reason against a reset, I am saying that NOW is not the time for a reset, however one in the future I would support, after some changes have been made.

Fact is Starfox, if we had a reset now, when everyone comes back or whatever happens, sign in again etc... then there will be NO Home Worlds, that means very low points.

The way people will survive will be Floating HWs, lots of transports in the middle of no where full of resources, the only targets will be production planets. I don't know about the rest of SL but I did NOT sign up to play SL to fighter over production planets! The only points other than those generated by such fighting will be that of training, people training in the hope that a stupid newbie won't listen to the floating HW idea and will try and make a HW.

SL without HWs gets boring, simple fact. SL without targets gets boring, simple fact. We need HWs, we need targets, wars are not fought for small villages on the outskirts of a country, they're fought for the big cities and the industry and overall to take control of that companies assets.

Right now we're fighting over the Villages, with the odd Capital falling whenever one is found, soon there will be no material capitals, just lots of storage warehouses that no one can find.

SL will be boring if changes are not made

you will be fighting to stay alive... there are practily no hws now so there will be a reason to fight for production... for surrvival... read hs post in support forum also ;)

Fighting over production planets? Yeah that sounds fun... :S

Anyway: Fighting to stay alive, that won't happen, you get to 25 planets and you're effectively safe, unless you're really stupid and have a 25 planet chain then you're not going to lose all the planets before you get some new ones.

if galaxy is smaller then it would be alot easier to find planets but my point mainly goes towards HS post
