This is troubling me slightly, when I looked at it midweek, it was in the mid 9000s; I believe 9355. Now when I look it is 8440. That is a decrease of almost 1000 planets in SL in under a week. Is this a general trend? Or has there just been a high amount of activity this week?

Iiri did have something in place which dropped planets at a faster rate for some time I'm sure he will put it back in place now that the planets have dropped low again - well thats if its wanted?

yea the planet rate is like an irratic hearbeat it fluctuates a good bit
but around 8000 is a bit on the low side
